Andy Puncher

Andy founded pH+ a creative and client-focused architectural practice with Drew Hamilton in 2005 following their winning selection by the Architects’ Journal ’40 under 40’ competition and exhibition.

He is known for his hands-on approach to projects and will be talking about the potential Architecture has to deliver both commercial returns and cultural and community value.

He will be talking about how pH+ Architecture is predicated around the belief that by delivering high quality and considered “shared spaces” higher commercial and residential densities can be accommodated to enhance, rather than detract from, living and working experiences.

This ethos generates higher commercial returns for Developer Clients which, in turn, facilitates investment in bespoke contextual Architectural responses which can viably accommodate a greater range of often less profitable tenures and uses; creating richer and more robust community structures, as well as delivering the “non sellable” but fundamental “shared spaces” which facilitate their growth.

In their work Shared Space can be read as the metaphysical, physical and programmatic place where the Self and Other meet and interact. It is the park, square, yard, street, curb and doorstep of the city as well as the overlaying of use classes to instigate exchange, interaction shared experience and memory.

Through the lens of their own projects, collaborations and research, this talk will explore this concept and highlight the Architect and Designer’s Role in delivering truly democratic space within mixed use Architecture, to support and develop cohesive fully functioning and successful communities and ultimately the cities they combine to form.

Not long to go until Cheltenham Design Festival 2019...
