5 Colourful Histories with Kassia St Clair
Writer Kassia St Clair is a freelance journalist and author of top-ten bestseller The Secret Lives of Colour.
Based in London, Kassia has appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live, Woman’s Hour, Monocle 24, BBC Radio 5 Live and CNN.
Her features, interviews, essays and reviews, covering design and culture, have appeared in publications including the Economist, the Telegraph, House & Garden, the TLS and the New Statesman; her Elle Decoration colour column has been running since 2013.
In 2018 she collaborated with Color Factory, creators of community pop-up art ‘experiences’, to create an interactive and immersive colour exhibit at a public space in New York.
Kassia, who is researching her next book, gives talks about colour and the cultural history of textiles all over the world including the Dallas Art Museum, the V&A and Soho House, and we’re delighted that she’ll be joining our line up at this year’s Cheltenham Design Festival.
She’ll share her lifelong obsession with colours, where colours come from and the fascinating relationship us humans have them; taking us on a journey through the history of our favourite colours and how they’ve played a unique part in civilisation. From fashion and politics, art and war, Kassia tells a vivid story of culture through colour.
